Headshot Tips You'll Only Get From an Insider
HYDRATE - Drink plenty of water at least 3-5 days prior to your session will ensure clearer skin, improve sleep quality, cognition and mood. So put the soda and beer cans down and get in the habit of hydrating. Think of your headshot session just like a day on set. An Actor Prepares!
INSPIRATION - When booking a session with your photographer, find inspirational images that resonates with how you want your headshots to look. Study other actors headshots and learn what style you want to portray.
GROOMING - Show off your new eyebrows and clean cut shave BUT do not do this the day of your photo session. Helpful hint, now is not the time to try someone new. The camera catches every detail so be sure to have all grooming needs like nails, waxing, shaving, cuts, styles, etc. done at least 1-2 days before.
LADIES - Whatever you do, do not wear permanent lipstick for your session. Ideally, you'll hire a MUA for your session, especially for multiple looks. For your MUA, please arrive with face freshly washed with hydration such as lotion applied on your face and wear chapstick!
PROPS - Feel free to bring stylish hats, scarves, statement necklaces to your session - nothing too distracting or over the top!
GENTLEMAN - Chapstick is your friend. Also, bring along eye-drops to keep your eyes bright and clear.
UNIQUENESS - Bring bright colors to help you stand out for commercial looks. Jewel tones are great underneath and layers are your friend. You want casting agents to stop scrolling when looking for their clients.
NATURAL IS BEST! - We're talking natural color on your nails, natural looking make-up but bright bold pops of colors for outfits will really make you stand out. And please leave the neon colors either back at home or to wear at your upcoming '80's cover band party.
