Sessions typically take place at an indoor studio in Royal Oak, Michigan with loads of natural light. We can also explore outdoor sessions in and around the Metro Detroit area [seasonal weather permitting from May - October].

I keep pretty normal business hours, shooting Monday-Friday and do not shoot at night. I will occasionally open up a Saturday shoot date for sessions.
- How far in advance do I reach out to schedule?
-
To ensure you're getting your ideal date/time that works for your schedule and have plenty of time to prepare for your session, we recommend reaching out at least 3-4 weeks in advance to schedule a session. If you are flexible, I do get reschedules and openings occasionally. I have last minute availability for previous clients in need of an updated 1-look shot.

That totally depends on the number of looks you're shooting and if you're using our makeup artist or coming to the studio camera ready. Most shoots take about 2-3 hours max.

- Is hiring a Make-Up or Hair Artist required?
-
It is not required, but HIGHLY encouraged. My stylists will take care of your skin & makeup to look outstanding, specifically for my high resolution professional camera. More information on my blog HERE . My MUA's have worked with us for a long time and they understand how lighting effects makeup and how makeup should appear in headshots. If you don't want makeup, want to do it yourself or choose to use your own makeup artist, I require you to arrive ready or meet your make-up artist before arriving for your first look. Your makeup artist is welcome to come with you to do touch-ups in between looks.
- Are we required to use only your makeup artists?

It is preferred! Our team of very talented artists are in high demand and we'll match you up and organize the dates for you. We have worked together for over 6 years and they are use to my process and add so much to your stylized session. My makeup artist stay with you during your entire session and they also lightly retouch your hair and create different looks based on your brand. They are paid separately and fees are subject to change.

We have worked together for over 6 years and we both understand those who have specific needs and real concerns for ensuring their skin is appropriately captured.

- I heard you are a branding expert, what does that mean?
-
Since my days working in Los Angeles as a SAG-AFTRA actor, headshot photographer, and 15 years accumulated experience as an acting coach, I have developed a custom 4-page branding questionnaire to help each actor solidify their brand in this season of their career.
Personal branding is basically the who behind the actor with headshots. With personal branding photos, we’re now introducing the why and telling a bit more of a story.
The term “personal branding” signifies that you are the brand. Therefore not only does the purpose of branding photos include putting a face to the name, but it’s also important to set yourself apart by telling the viewer [casting agent, manager, representation] something about your personality and style, who you are as an actor, the different types of roles you want to be considered for and or have portrayed in the past. This helps casting agents see you accurately!
My industry standard personal branding actor headshots are much more intentional, and more sophisticated and creative than your typical smiling or serious headshots.
- Is it true you were a professional actor?
-
Yes! I'm a classically trained actress graduating with a BFA from Wayne State University in Detroit and have been on various theatre stages since 1995. My training also includes performing sketch comedy with numerous comedy troupes around the country all attributed from my years studying improvisation, plus taking sketch comedy writing classes at the prestigious Second City Training Center in Detroit and UCB in Los Angeles.
I co-owned & operated a thriving national touring theatre company educating our youth across 43 states for 9 years in North Carolina and then worked as a SAG-AFTRA actor and voice actor in the film and tv industry in Los Angeles and Detroit, as well as producing award winning shorts and two different web series. Sprinkled throughout the years, I've been an acting coach, drama teacher, camp theatre director and directed several plays and musicals on stage.
Actress Kim's Kind Words
"Karri is a total pro and so much fun! She will give you direction that will inspire you, not "pose" you (of course, if you need it, she will!). I highly recommend her; just before the pandemic, I'd been wanting to use her for years (as I've seen fellow actor headshots done by her), and I just finished my 3rd headshot session with her within the past two years. You will NOT be disappointed!" ~ Kim C.
Actor Matthew's Kind Words
"Karri knows what she's doing! She was highly recommended to me by a number of actor friends. I'm a relatively newer actor, so Karri's personal branding prep materials were very helpful to me - both to prepare for the shoot and to think more broadly about how I see myself (and want to be seen) as an actor. We had a great shoot, and my new headshots have already helped me get in-person meetings with a few different agencies." ~ Matthew
